Draw What You Understand

Our Context in Art -course started with taking over the city with paper and pencil. This time the task was to "draw what you understand". We drew in four different locations. At the end of the day I had more than 40 drawings. Here are few.

First place was the shopping mall Iso karhu.
Second location was the weird Amado area (which I had hard time understanding as a whole. Instead I drew familiar objects I could find around there).
 Like a bike
After lunch we continued at the Pori Market Square. But I was feeling lazy and cold so I stayed in a cafe by the market square drinking tea and drawing what I could see trough the cafe window.
Last place was the glorious City Hall. It manifested peace, power and order, after spending the whole day at the chaotic city.
The last drawings are done during our end conversation in the Värjäämö where we held the class. In the front of the first picture is our lovely teacher and artist Pia Euro.
Palaan pian means I'll be back soon. And with this greeting I'm saying goodbye to you since now I'm heading off to Stockholm Sweden for couple of days. Bye!

Headshot

This video work - Headshot is also a school work. I did it last week on the second laboratory course that was held by finnish artistis Marika Orenius. She gave as thoughts of philosopher Maurice Merleau-Ponty to dig into and be inspired by. I wanted to examine Merleau-Ponty's view of a "body as a piece of art". Since I'm into theatre I instantly saw the idea of "lived body" be important aspect in acting. Headshot plays with the idea of a role play with myself.

To understand what I whisper in the video is not important. The sounds are there to express lightness. What I whisper is old quotes from my diary. I'm talking about the sunny side of life: like the power of thankfulness and love, being in the presence, subconscious and happiness. I also mention one elephant and lunch pasta. The video can be watched on mute too, if preferred. Enjoy!

Queer Paper Doll

Which one is male and which one female?
Queer Paper Dolis a school work I did for our Media and Gender class. Gender is not only a physical condition but it contain's lot of learned attributes. Like the way we are dressed, what is concerned to be feminine and what macho, has mostly do with the culture we are learned to live in. I was inspired to do this cross-dressed paper dolls after I saw these photographs of couples wearing each other's clothes. This is my a little rebel experiment.
Girls and boys feel free to print and play with the Queer Paper Doll. The size is A3.

Painting Cats

Here are pictures of four cat paintings that are in the progress. On this Monday's painting class I just felt like painting cats. I worked with acrylics to create layers of light to the background. I will work them further later on with oil paints, adding details and depth.
